SPAIN. The Correos issues for the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse. The first coloured ATM stamp

In 2026 for the third year running, the Correos philatelic service released a stamp collection marking the Chinese New Year; the Year of the Horse.

These festive issues were very well received and aroused great interest, from the very first of the releases not only amongst regular stamp collectors, but also among the many visitors to the Usera celebrations, for whom purchasing the various products issued by Correos has become an annual tradition. This is undoubtedly a success story, and also a great opportunity to raise awareness of the world of philately beyond events and exhibitions of a purely philatelic nature.

The range of issues has expanded year on year, and in 2026 the collection includes a series of variable value stamps – the star of the collection – available in three … or four … different printing varieties, accompanied by a commemorative cover and postcard, and two special postmarks, one of them bi-coloured (see). Correos also released a ‘Year of the Horse’ collector’s folder, a pack of products, and produced prefranked covers – postal stationery (see). And for the first time in 2026, the ATM issue served as the basis for the release of a special folder containing a golden stamp, the first colour-printed ATM-style stamp in Spain, plus an authentic gold ATM copy (!) (see).

Although unrelated to the variable value stamp issues, the 2026 Chinese New Year collection is rounded off with a TUSELLO Yingge Dance stamp and all its associated products, cover, postcard, postmarks and folder (see).

As in 2025, the design used in 2026 for ATM issues is the official mascot or greeting from the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The ‘Lucky Horse’ was designed by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, drawing inspiration from historical statues and figures of horses in traditional Chinese art from the Han and Tang dynasties, with red as the main colour, associated with good fortune.
