SPAIN. ‘Mortadelo y Filemón’ at Comic Barcelona

In July 2024, coinciding with the first anniversary of the death of Francisco Ibáñez, creator of ‘Mortadelo y Filemón’, Correos released the first crypto stamp issued in Spain, depicting Mortadelo and five of his iconic costumes.
This was was not the first time that a philatelic issue had been dedicated to these characters as Correos had previously dedicated one of the stamps from the ‘Personajes de Tebeo’ series (right) to this theme in 1998, together with the release of nearly 50 million labels for the printing of variable value stamps (see article). In addition a souvenir sheet of the ‘Personajes’ series dedicated to the author was also released in July 2024, depicting several of the characters created by Ibáñez.

With this issue of the crypto stamp, the philatelic service launched a major campaign to promote this new philatelic product, and in 2025 decided to participate at Comic Barcelona with a stand at the largest annual comic fair held in Spain.
