Since late 2024, ‘Mais Atletismo!’ (More Athletics) has been the slogan and challenging project of the new leadership of the Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo (FPA), the Portuguese Athletics Federation, with the aim of promoting participation in the sport by supporting clubs and improving sports facilities.

This is undoubtedly a great initiative, which Correios de Portugal has chosen to support and promote through the issue of the second series of variable value stamps in 2025 for its Newvision postal kiosks, complemented by several illustrated covers and two commemorative postmarks (Lisbon and Porto).

The three illustrations are by the graphic designer Rogério Bastos and are based on photos from the archives of the Portuguese Athletics Federation. The collection pays tribute to leading figures and international medallists in Portuguese athletics: Fernanda Ribeiro, Olympic 10,000-metre champion at Atlanta in 1996, and Inês Henriques, world champion in the 50 km; Paulo Guerra, a cross-country specialist with several European titles, and Jéssica Augusto, a long-distance runner and European medallist; and Rosa Mota and Manuela Machado, the two leading figures in Portuguese athletics, European and world marathon champions.
