TUNISIA. 2002, the Nagler tourist series

Introduction. Frama issue

In November 1992, La Poste Tunisienne installed two FE 1610 stamp vending machines manufactured by the Swiss company Frama at its main post office, in Tunis.

The machines issued variable value stamps – ATMs with face values between 0.010 and 9.990 dinars, in increments of 0.010 dinars, printed in red-magenta on rolls of matt gummed white paper. The printing plate included a fixed crown with the words “POSTES” and “TUNISIE” in French and Arabic and the machine number (001 or 002), with digit wheels in the centre for printing the face value.

From February 1994 onwards, using the same printing plate, both machines began using rolls of gummed paper with coloured fibres that included a security background with a pre-printed geometric design.

These machines were in service at the Tunis main post office for around 10 years, until they were withdrawn on July 31st 2002.

The Nagler stamp vending machines. The rare tourist series

In 2000, La Poste Tunisienne announced the acquisition of 10 automatic variable value stamp vending machines from the German company Nagler. Most of these machines were to be installed in post offices in the main coastal tourist towns of Djerba, Hammamet, Mahdia-Hiboun, Monastir, Port El Kantaoui, Sousse, Tabarka, Tunis-Airport, Tunis-Thameur and Zarzis.
