Still not yet!. Correos unveiled plans for the new Museo Postal y Telegráfico (Post and Telegraph Museum) in Toledo in March 2021, with the intention of opening it in late 2022 … The new museum will be located next to the main post office, in the city’s historic centre. The years have passed and the opening has been repeatedly postponed. It finally looked as though this would take place during the last quarter of 2025; the philatelic service had dedicated one of its two definitive issues of variable value stamps to the new museum (see article), with the idea of scheduling a special imprint to coincide with the opening. However, 2025 came and went and the museum remained closed … and in fact, as of the recent update of this article, March 2026, the museum’s opening date has not been set.
Even so, the philatelic service decided to press ahead with its programme in 2025 and organised a small philatelic event at Toledo’s main post office on Thursday October 9th, to coincide with World Post Day. During this event, they released a new ATM design dedicated to the Tizona sword and also issued variable value stamps from its desktop computer system, with the definitive design featuring the new museum’s logo. Both designs include the special wording ‘9 octubre Toledo’ on two lines below the face value indicator.
World Post Day is celebrated every year on October 9th, the date of the creation of the Universal Postal Union in 1874, in Switzerland.
