Singapore celebrated its 60th anniversary of independence (SG60) in 2025. On August 9th 1965, Singapore became an independent city-state. In 60 years, it has transformed itself from a small port city into one of the richest and most developed nations in the world.
And, of course, Singapore Post marked this anniversary with several commemorative stamp issues released throughout the year; amongst them, a new issue of postage labels for its kiosks and postal equipment.
The ‘SG60 Heritage Playgrounds’ issue is dedicated to the city’s historic playgrounds, mosaic structures featuring animal and fruit images, mostly built in the 1970s and 1980s by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) within large public housing estates.

Although many of these structures have since been demolished for safety reasons and replaced by new plastic playgrounds, some have been preserved as part of the country’s historical heritage, including the four featured on the new label: from left to right, the dragon at Toa Payoh Park, the Elephant at Pasir Ris, the Dove at Dakota Crescent and the Pelican at Dover Road.

Marking its 50th anniversary ten years ago Singapore organised the Singapore 2015 World Philatelic Exhibition, for which a special postage label was issued (see article, published in VARIABLE 38). During the exhibition Royal Mail installed its Post&Go kiosks dispensing its special issues (article) in addition to the printing of sample labels by Cartor Security Printing (article and article).
