The annual definitive series, ‘Sommer 2024’
In 2024, the philatelic department of Österreichische Post AG again issued two series of two label designs for the printing of variable value stamps from its Inform kiosks. These were a definitive series in early January (‘Sommer’ in German, Summer), and a series with winter images in early November (‘Winter’), for use at its philatelic kiosks during the Christmas season. The Austrian Post refers to these stamps as ‘Automatenwertzeichen’ or AWZ, kiosk or vending machine stamps.
The “Sommer 2024” series is illustrated with a picture of a mountain landscape showing a hiker or mountaineer (“Wandern”, the original name in German) and the second label with a thistle (“Distel”).
The philatelic service doesn’t release any information on either the designer of this type of issues or the manufacturer, although from the characteristics of the printing we can identify the security printer as Royal Joh. Enschedé from the Netherlands. The rolls of gummed labels were printed by offset and every fifth label has a 4-digit number preprinted on the back to indicate the number of labels remaining on the roll.

HIBRIA 2024 – POSTMUSEUM 2024 – ÖVEBRIA 2024 – ”phila”-Toscana`24
The philatelic service schedules various permanent and temporary imprints throughout the year, at its Inform philatelic kiosks.
The first three ‘definitive’ imprints (PHILATELIE.SHOP – SONDERPOSTAMT – VÖPH) were available from January 9th until October 31st 2024 from the four philatelic kiosks permanently installed at philatelic shops in Vienna (Philatelie Shop – Post am Rochus, and Philatelie Ost), Graz (Philatelie Mitte/West) and Steyr (Philatelie Mitte/West).

The three special imprints (HIBRIA 2024 – ÖVEBRIA 2024 – “’phila”’-Toscana`24), available on the occasion of the main philatelic events in Austria, could be obtained at these permanent kiosks several days before the date of the event, and also from the philatelic service stand at the three exhibitions.

The special POSTMUSEUM 2024 imprint was available from May 3rd 2024 on the occasion of the opening of the postal museum in Eisenerz (Österreichische Post- und Telegraphenmuseum), a former hunting lodge of Emperor Franz Joseph I. This imprint was available from the four kiosks and the special post office in the museum.

The Christmas issues, the ‘Winter 2024’ series
The two designs of the special series for the Christmas season (“Winter 2024”) are illustrated with the image of a bauble or Christmas tree ornament (“Christbaumkugel”, the German name), and with a winter landscape (“Winterlandschaft”) on the second label.

The seven scheduled imprints on these designs, three “definitive” (PHILATELIE. The special REGIO WEST 2024 imprint was also available at all four kiosks, as well as from the philatelic service stand at the philatelic exhibition in Rankweil, on November 8th & 9th.

In addition to the permanent ones, Österreichische Post AG has two further kiosks installed in temporary or seasonal post offices, at the Postamt Christkindl (open from November 29th to January 6th 2025) and at the Bruckmann-Haus in Oberndorf bei Salzburg (from December 8th to 24th 2024).
